You'll be surprised as to how much can be grown in a pot. A couple of pots can produce all the salad greens you can eat during the summer.
For those who are more ambitious, and want to grow all of their vegetables, but still don't have the space you will have to look further afield. You may be lucky to find a friend or neighbour who is willing to lend you the use of their garden. In return you can split your crop with them.
Another alternative is an allotment. These are plots of land rented out by your local council. They are getting and more popular so you may well have to go on a waiting list. Travel around your town and you will see plots of land set aside for vegetable growing. They will have a sign on the front gate with a phone number with which to enquire about getting a plot.
Take a look at the National Society of Allotment and Leisure Gardeners for more information.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07194178642705415142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-79429208094178849782015-10-24T00:49:00.001-07:002015-10-24T00:49:15.801-07:00Water – The World’s greatest detoxifier
Diet has been wrongly conceived that various liquid diets, supplements, and many drinks are best detoxifiers. But in reality, people overlook the simplest of all the detoxifiers. Yes, we are talking about water – pure and healthy water. Detoxification depends on water being taken in the body. It is one of the best possible ways of flushing out the toxins from the system. Everyday we use about 80,000 different chemicals. This is present in our air, food and everything we touch. We can rid of these poisonous substances if we drink pure and healthy water everyday. This is the only way to remain pure from within.

The best way of detoxification is drinking about 10-12 glasses of water daily. When you drink about 2 liters of pure water everyday, it has superb health benefits. Water helps in better immune system. Both skin and body are rejuvenated and there is a glow on the skin. The body remains hydrated. There is better digestion because the necessary nutrients are transported by water to the respective body parts. We experience less pain and aches, feel full of energy and vigor. The best thing about drinking water it helps in cutting the fat.

It is very easy to test whether you are drinking the requisite quantity of water by performing a urine test. In case your urine is yellow in color, it means you are drinking enough water. The yellowish color of urine is an indication that the body is suffering from dehydration. A detox diet mainly is full of fresh and pure water. It helps to release the toxins from the body. These toxins are then transported to the kidneys from where they are excreted.

Ensure that the water you drink is pure and healthy. In case you have been drinking water directly from the tap, then the natural detoxification is slowed down. Chlorine and other chemicals are present in the normal tap water. Similarly, when you keep drinking such unsafe water day in and ay out, it is sure that the liver and kidneys would filter them and the detoxification would not be optimum.

It is advised that a simple filtration system be installed. This filtration system would help in eliminating about 99% of the toxins present in tap water. To summarize, we need to drink at least 2 liters of water daily to detoxify our body. Drinking water regularly helps to flush out the toxins from the body. It is the cheapest and best possible way to reduce weight and of course, what we need to keep in mind is that there are absolutely no side effects.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07194178642705415142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-26143504297955983922015-10-18T12:34:00.001-07:002015-10-18T12:34:10.284-07:00Useful Tips for Healthy Family Meals

Healthy FoodIn today’s health conscious society, more and more people are looking for ways to eat healthier. Many families are sitting down and enjoying healthy family meals together safe in the knowledge that the food they are eating will be good for them. Homemade meals don’t have to take an age to prepare; there are many that can be made in the same time as it takes for a ready made meal or microwave meal.

Of course with homemade meals you know exactly what ingredients are in it. You can choose to use plenty of low calories ingredients and lots of vegetables. These will ensure your family is getting the nutrients they need and also aren’t eating foods that could make them put on weight.

So here are some more tips to make healthy family meals more enjoyable and healthy:

#1 – Make Your Own Meals

As we have just mentioned, making your own meals has so many benefits. You can use fresh produce and reduce the amount of salt and fats in each meal. You can also choose the portion sizes, so you won’t be tempted to each more than you normally would.

#2 – Involve Your Children

Let’s face it; most children don’t like being told what to do, let alone what they will eat. So you should involve them in choosing what they want to eat and maybe even get them to help you make it. This involvement will make them enjoy the food even more and also get them away from the TV or their video game!

Healthy family meals can really be enjoyable and healthy for the whole family. The days of stopping off at McDonalds or KFC on the way home are over. The way forward is healthy meals for a healthy and happy family.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07194178642705415142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-75276568887866559992015-10-18T12:31:00.001-07:002015-10-18T12:31:20.593-07:00Healthy Weight Loss for Kids

Tips for Healthy Kids Weight LossBeing overweight can be hard enough but being overweight when you are a child or teenager can be really difficult. Overweight children can have low self esteem and a lack of self confidence that they can carry all the way through to adulthood. Parents can find it hard too as even approaching the subject with their child can be difficult. But healthy weight loss for kids needs to be encouraged, so if you are an overweight child or a parent with an overweight child then now is the time to act.

Tips to Encourage Healthy Weight Loss

Let’s face it, almost all children like getting treats of some kind. So you can set goals for your child and if they reach them, then they get the treat. Now when we say “treat” we’re not talking about chocolate cake or chips, it can be a trip to the cinema or maybe a new toy they want. Set them a goal and watch them do their best to hit it. Sure, it maybe a type of bribery but it works and your child will be much healthier for it!

The next tip is to get your child to eat healthily. Now you can’t watch them 24 hours a day and there may be times when they eat unhealthy foods. So what you need to ensure is every meal you make for them is healthy. That way you can be sure they are at least getting 1-3 healthy meals a day, no matter what they are eating in between.

These are just 2 very simple tips to encourage healthy weight loss for your kids. Try to get them to be more active and have them eat healthy foods and they will start to lose weight fast. These are my opinions on the game and not an advertisement for PB & J.

Tic Attach Toe is basically a game of tic tac toe, but with some twists. Instead of playing on paper, you have cards and the cards are shaped as either X's or O's. The cards also have numbers on them. There are also score cards. When you win a round, you get a score card. The winner is the first person to get 5 score cards.

I think that this is a perfect "keep them busy, till the food gets here" toy. It comes in a great holder, which makes it easy to throw in a purse or pocket to take to the restaurant. It also helps you from losing the cards. The holder then becomes the game board, so that the cards aren't going all over the place.

I also like that there is a limit of games to play until someone wins. There have been times, I have had to play tic tac toe for what seems forever. With this game, you can tell your child you will play until someone wins and then it is time to do something else.

The concept of the game is similar to tic tac toe, except that you only put a card in an empty space or over a card with a lower number value. Therefore, you are working on counting skills while you play the game. It is very easy to understand and pick up. Read the directions of how to play. They only thing we really didn't get when we played was the wild card. It didn't seem to have any real value. The girls I was playing with didn't like that part of the game at all.

This is an easy game to make modifications to so that kids of different ages and abilities can play together at the same level. A younger child can just play with the x's and o's, while the older child has to follow the counting rules.

For a child with a developmental disability who likes cards, there are many different ways you can play with them beyond the game. They can sort by color--the x's are red and o's are blue. They can sort by shape. They can match numbers or put the numbers in order. To practice fine motor, you can make up a game where they have to pick up the card and put it into the game board within a certain amount of time.

Overall, I think this a very versatile game at a reasonable price of less than $10. I think it can be especially valuable for a child that can not hold a pencil, can't sit still at a restaurant, or needs to practice colors or counting in a game format.

Video source
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07194178642705415142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-19058748511351381132015-10-17T11:58:00.001-07:002015-10-17T11:58:22.961-07:00How to plan a scavenger hunt for children with disabilities
To day we have a guest blogger from the Scavenger Hunt Guru. Her site is filled with different ideas for creating different type of scavenger hunts. Let Kids Play asked her what she would do for children with disabilities and here is her response.

Are you looking for a fun, engaging activity to do with children with disabilities? Scavenger hunts are a wonderful way to get children outside. They are experiential by nature and encourage children to interact with the environment around them. They can be tailored to meet all levels of ability.

One of the greatest feelings while doing a scavenger hunt is a sense of accomplishment. That is why they are such great activities for kids, whether they have disabilities or not. Children are able to find a list of objects, listen for sounds, find treasure, follow the theme of the hunt, etc. and then share their experiences.

Setting up a scavenger hunt for kids is relatively easy. You can choose to come up with a scavenger hunt list of items found in nature, or you can choose to hide objects in the park or playground. When coming up with natural clues, consider tying in all five senses: a prickly leaf, the sound of a bird, something that smells sweet, something smooth, etc. If you choose to hide objects outside, consider making an "unnatural" trail. The children will go down the path and point out all the "unnatural" things they see.

When facilitating the activity, it is imperative that you make it accessible to all members of the group. If some children are in wheelchairs, do not hide the objects in a place which they are unable to navigate to. If a child is unable to be in the sun, make your hunt in the shade or under a maze of shade tents. If children are unable to read, you can draw a picture of each object that they are to find. Consider partnering the children or having an adult with each group of 2-3 children to keep the hunt safe and manageable.

Remember to set a time limit for the hunt. It's best to end the activity with the children wanting more. Then arrange the group in a circle to share what they found. They will discover that each group found different smooth objects or heard different birds, that each person is unique and has a unique perspective to share with the world.

Scavenger Hunt Guru is a wonderful resource with many scavenger hunts for kids ready to go for both indoor and outdoor activites. They are also more than happy to help you brainstorm ideas for your next scavenger hunt and ways to make them accessible for all of the children in your group.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07194178642705415142noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-20540233807995962692014-08-09T10:01:00.001-07:002014-08-09T10:01:32.644-07:00Blooms of Beauty For Our HomeMy family has lived in the same area and the same home for 20 years now. Through much trial and error, we have established our outdoor shrubs and decorations. My husband and I have an agreement that he handles most of the outdoor chores and I handle the indoor ones. Through the years our azalea bushes had grown and were flourishing, but as any good gardener knows, they must be pruned to further enhance growth and beauty. So, recently when my husband had a burst of energy, he went around and pruned all of our shrubs. He did a great job and things looked fantastic in the yard. The only minor issue was that azaleas need to be pruned no later than July to bloom the next spring and this pruning took place in November. I resigned myself to a spring with no blooming azaleas, but very thankful for a wonderful husband who willingly cares and works around the house.

Imagine my surprise when this azalea plant, against all odds, grew and put on tiny blooms. Wow! It was tiny, but resilient and the blooms were brighter and lovelier because of it’s tenacity and how it overcame the odds to produce a bloom.

There is an old saying, “Bloom where you are planted,” which can ring true for us as women while we keep and manage our homes. Oftentimes it takes tenacity to overcome situations in our lives – financial issues, home and family struggles, loneliness in a new place, the drudgery of day to day chores, and work are just a few things that can zap our energy and love for the home. There may be some painful areas that we need to have pruned in our lives to function more efficiently. But if we keep the focus of what we are called by God to do, and determine in our hearts to be the best at what we are doing, we can reach toward the Son and allow Him to fill our heart and lives with what we need to overcome our obstacles.

As we are filled and renewed, we also will bloom! We will bring a freshness and beauty to the home that comes through sometimes pruning and determination to bloom. There is a rare beauty found in the heart that overcomes, and this will be a brilliant light that shines in our lives and homes.

When we focus our attention on being able to bloom, we may need to ask God for the wisdom for what we need and what we don’t need. As my little azalea zoned in to receive the sun and rain to grow, we may need to narrow our focus and cut out things that hinder our blooms. Time management, priorities, cleaning skills, cooking skills, hospitality, child training and striving to be a godly wife may be places we excel at or could use some extra training in for our ministry as keeper of the home. There are unlimited sources of encouragement for women today. Of course the first and foremost source of wisdom is God’s Word and truly, Titus 2 is a wonderful place to evaluate where we are and where we can build upon. Encouragement and fellowship can strengthen us as women and help provide creative ideas and helpful hints.

May we be encouraged to determine to bloom where we are planted and make the most of every gift, talent and ability we have received in our lives and homes. May the fragrance and beauty of the Lord surround us always.----http://www.blogger.com/profile/00416962279937934191noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8284509651789312505.post-58478548625888526652014-08-09T09:50:00.000-07:002014-08-09T09:50:21.559-07:00The Doer (for lack of a better word) A few weeks ago I wrote about using fewer words. You may remember the trashcan, and the comparison that I made of making a room breathable by throwing out junk. "When in doubt, throw it out." That's the motto I used.

There are various ways through which we can eliminate unnecessary words, and one of those ways is by using the active voice. Don't worry, it doesn't involve the treadmill or the ThighMaster, but it does involve mastering our skill as a writer.
What is it? Wikipedia defines it this way:

When the subject is the agent or actor of the verb, the verb is in the active voice. When the subject is the patient, target or undergoer of the action, it is said to be in the passive voice.

Let's look at an example:

Passive: The apple was coughed up by the worm.

Active: The worm coughed up the apple.

See how many words we were able to save in that one sentence? We traded "was coughed up by" for the short and simple "coughed up" saving us two words. When editing sentences, imagine that each word is one dollar spent, and before you know it, you'll be working to save a bundle. Imagine they're pounds, and your books will turn into short stories! ;)

The key to the active voice is that of making the doer (for lack of a better word) the star of the sentence. If the worm is coughing up a huge chunk of apple, he wants top billing for all that hard work.

However, when you want to tilt the discussion in your favor, you might use the passive voice. Say for example, a little kid down the street throws a rock at you, and this is the umpteenth time that he's done so, you may want to point at the rock in your forehead and say, "This rock was thrown by your son!"

There are times when you want to make the object the star of the sentence rather than the doer. In that case you'd want to deliberately use the passive voice.

Another way--in fact my favorite way--to save words is by choosing stronger verbs to replace the weak ones. Shannon Woodward gave me a leg up when she suggested that I be cautious of the "ly" words. These words are often a sign of lazy verbs that need to be firmed up.

Here are a few examples of "ly" words and some muscular alternatives:

walk softly

tip toe

shout loudly

scream

go quickly

jolt

move slowly

linger

hold firmly

grasp

rub gently

stroke

talk quietly

whisper

talk loudly

shout

When I wrote The Mom Complex I looked at every single "ly" word to see if it should stay or be removed. Most of the verb/adverb combinations were replaced with one strong verb, but in some cases I had my reason to keep it.

Of course not all "ly" words are adjectives. One can say, "I'm lonely," but there is no reason to say, "I'm terribly lonely," is there? Unless your kids went off to school this past week, and you're left alone at home writing in cyberspace. :(

But I digress. The "ly" words are the easiest ones to spot, but after a while we learn to spot other lazy verbs too. Take for example a sign reading, "Do not go in here," it would sound stronger if it read, "Do not enter," or "Keep out."

Strong verbs are a sign of a strong writer, so whip those lazy verbs into shape, and firm up your prose!

Have a <strike>tremendously wonderful</strike> great day, y'all! :)

Vince Flynn, the bestselling author of political thriller novels, died early Wednesday after a long battle with prostate cancer, his publisher said. He was 47.
Flynn was the author of 14 novels, which regularly appeared on the New York Times bestseller list.
All but one of his novels feature counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp. The character and series garnered Flynn legions of followers, with CBS Films buying the rights to the Mitch Rapp character with the intention of creating a movie franchise.
Flynn had planned on becoming Marine Corps aviator in the early 1990s, but he was medically disqualified before entering the program, his publisher, Simon & Schuster, said.
It was around that time that he first considered writing a novel.
Flynn wrote his first novel, Term Limits, while supporting himself by bartending at night. His manuscript was rejected more than 60 times before he decided to self-publish, which was not very common at the time, his publisher said.
The self-published book was a hit, and Flynn's career took off.
"Flynn's novels have been praised for their extensive research and prescient warnings about the rise of Islamic Radical Fundamentalism and terrorism," Simon & Schuster said in a statement.
On his website, Flynn had said that becoming a novelist was an unusual choice because he had been diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, and struggled with reading and writing.
He listed his influences as Ernest Hemingway, Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy, J.R.R. Tolkien, Gore Vidal and John Irving.
Flynn is survived by his wife, Lysa, and three children. you can validation this quote at
Whales or glaciers can be seen while sailing out at sea, while shore trips will allow travelers to explore various port cities and wildlife territories. Most cruises to Alaska will include the Inside Passage, Skagway, Glacier Bay and Juneau. A lot of them will start from Seattle or Vancouver, and will often not be round-trip cruises. This will require that you should make your flight bookings from distinct cities, while you will allow covering a large distance while being at sea.

Long Cruise Discounts

Alaskacruises.com will include sections for “hot deals” which will include a lot of cruise options at low rates. Regardless of your budget, you will be able to find something which should get you going on your new adventure. Generally, cruises will last from 7 to twelve nights. Some voyages will include a mixture of hotel stays and offering for longer shore trips. The offers will change on a regular basis. There are a lot of distinct bonuses, like free hotel nights, a salmon bake in Juneau or extra Rockies Land Tours.

Shorter Cruises, Great Rates

Another site offering sailing discounts will be cruisevacationcenter.com. The longer days of the summer season will offer cruisers much more time each and every day to take in the surrounding wonderful landscapes. Air or boat is the only method of getting to Juneau, the capital of Alaska. Cruisers are able to travel the Alaskan waters through peaceful natural preserves. A little bit tougher to navigate, the website does have an individual section for cruise deals to Alaska. As the line will provide cruise trips to worldwide, you will have to make your way through Mediterranean or Caribbean cruises first.

Smaller May Be Better

For those who may enjoy an experience on board a small cruise ship, Cruise West will be specialized in traveling on smaller boats. The ships may host between 78 and almost 140 passengers. Cruising on board such cruise ships will let the tourist into a larger variety of areas. This is considered the only line which offer cruises through Tracy Arm and Wrangell. Many of these cruise tours will be made round-trip, it will all depend on the number of night you are interested of spending at sea. With over sixty years of experience, passengers will get 1-on-1 service which is not available on those ocean liners. They can port in smaller towns as well, and not necessarily have to fight the crowds when everyone else will dock at the very same time or have to compete with the large number of other cruises for shore trips.

When you enter into the Insurance sales field you have to ask
yourself this question at some time in your career; should I be a
captive or non- captive agent?
A captive agent is one who works
for one company and agrees to only sell their products. A non captive
agent can represent more than one company and offer a variety of
products. There are agents who have experienced success using both
methods. You have to decide for yourself which direction you want to
take your business in.
A captive agent will sign on with a
company, go through their training and become proficient in selling
their products. Many times captive companies focus on a particular niche
in the marketplace although they may have a menu of products customers
can choose from. Some of these companies even offer their agents a
beginning salary or guarantee to get them going in the Insurance field.
There
are advantages to the captive agent. You get to focus on and become
very proficient with how your company works. You tend to work with the
same support staff, underwriters and agents. You have a manager you
report to. Many times you even have regular hours to go into the office
each week.
Disadvantages include; you have to focus only on your
company's products. If your company doesn't offer universal life
products, you can't sell them. It's very hard as a captive agent to deal
with every client you come across because you are limited in your
product offerings. It's like being in the restaurant business; nobody
goes to Kentucky Fried Chicken for tacos. Managers can sometimes forget
that you are not really employees but independent contractors and make
requirements of you that only a W-2 employee has to follow. Finally,
your commissions may be less in a captive contract.
There are
advantages to being a non captive agent. You get to create your own menu
of products you want to offer to your clients. You can get larger
shares of the commissions because you are not a real expense to the
insurance company. They can afford to give you more because you only
make money when you send them business. You can determine which clients
in the marketplace you want to focus on and contract with those
companies to offer their products. You don't have expected office hours.
Disadvantages
include; you don't have a manager to support you in your business. Many
times you will feel you are on your own and you would be right. You may
not have the proper contracts in place to service your clients or you
may have the wrong contracts (products you don't sell anyway).
It will all depend on how you want to structure your business. Either option of captive or non captive can work.
Find out what fits best for you.
Consider carefully whether loan consolidation is your best choice. Loan consolidation can significantly simplify the repayment of loans to centralize in a single account. However, if you extend the term of the payment period, you must make more payments and pay more in interest. Compare your current monthly payments with the amount that they would represent if their loans were consolidated.

You should also consider the impact of losing those borrower benefits that were offered with the original loans. The benefits of your original loan borrower that may include discounts on interest rates, returns a portion of the capital or some loan cancellation benefits can significantly reduce the cost of repayment of their loans. You could lose those benefits when performing consolidation.
You know their TV commercials, the ones featuring the ditsy actress all dressed in white.
What you might not know is that the Chairman of Progressive is Peter Lewis,
one of the major funders of leftist causes in America ..

Between 2001 and 2003, Lewis funneled $15 million to the ACLU,
the group most responsible for destroying what’s left of Americas Judeo-Christian heritage.

Lewis also gave $12.5 million to MoveOn.org and America Coming Together,
two key propaganda arms of the socialist left.

His funding for these groups was conditional on matching contributions from George Soros,
the America-hating socialist who is the chief financier of the Obama political machine.

Lewis made a fortune as a result of capitalism, but now finances a progressive movement that threatens
to destroy the American free enterprise system that is targeting television shows on Fox News.

Peter Lewis is making a fortune off of conservative Americans (who buy his auto insurance) that he then applies to dismantle the very system that made him wealthy. He’s banking on no one finding out who he is,
so STOP buying Progressive Insurance and pass this information on to all your friends..

Chairman Lewis’ gift helps the ACLU promote their anti-Christmas agenda such as:
· Removing nativity scenes from public property
· Banning songs such as Silent Night from schools
· Refusing to allow students to write about the Christian aspect of Christmas in school projects
· Renaming Christmas break Winter break
· Refusing to allow a city sponsored Christmas parade to be called a Christmas parade
· Not allowing a Christmas tree in a public school
· Renaming a Christmas tree displayed on public property a Holiday tree
In addition to their war on Christmas, the ACLU uses gifts like that from Chairman Lewis to:
· Sue states to force them to legalize homosexual marriage
· Force libraries to remove porn filters from their computers
· Sue the Boy Scouts to force them to accept homosexuals as scout leaders
· Help legalize child pornography
· Legalize live sex acts in bars in Oregon
· Protect the North American Man Boy Love Association whose motto is “sex by eight or it is too late”
· Censor student led prayer at graduation
· Remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance
· Remove “In God We Trust” on our currency
MRAT combines insurance claims data, detailed information about municipal infrastructure and climate modeling to predict where there are vulnerabilities in systems that could lead to millions of dollars in sewer backup damage to homes and businesses.

The magazine said, "As we try to figure out our reaction to the potential impacts of climate change, this tool may hold many of our answers, or at least provide a basis for making the tough decisions that will have to be made."

Severe weather events, and the impact on our infrastructure, have been in the news more and more in recent years. IBC Senior Vice-President, Issues Management and Communications Mary Lou O'Reilly says, "Insurers are seeing the financial impacts of severe weather first-hand. Canadians are already witnessing the impact of severe weather in terms of lost lives and injuries, families displaced from their homes, and towns that are devastated."

IBC is a leader in advocating for adaptation to severe weather. Last year IBC commissioned "Telling the Weather Story" - a research paper from Dr. Gordon McBean , which looked at the impact weather could have in Canada in the future. Visit ibc.ca for a selection of brochures and a section of our website devoted to providing Canadians with practical tips about how they can improve their home's resiliency.
