About the Editor

• Mary Ellen "Melon" Schrieo, maiden name Smith, is a 3rd generation Harsens Island native. I'm raising our 4th generation of Smith family Islanders, Shannon & Sean.
• My grandfather, the late Captain William Smith, settled here in 1911. He was captain of "The Harvester", a great lakes freighter.
• My father, Patrick H. "Packy" Smith is also a Captain, employed by Champions Auto Ferry.
• My parents, Packy & Ann Smith, my sister Gail Zawada (Smith), and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and more all live here on the Island.
• What can I say?..... we all love Harsens Island!
